Response to the Great Earthquake in Turkey and Syria


In April last month,RfP Japan provided financial support to the following organizations in response to the major earthquake that hit southern Turkey, which borders Syria, on February 6.

The decision to provide financial support was made in consultation with RfP's international network and NGOs operating in the region.

1. Onder Organization for Cooperation and Development (Turkish NGO): US$50,000 Operation of shelters, distribution of food and goods, and support for children's education.

2. Tokyo Jamii Diyanat Turkish Cultural Center: 3 million yen Food and housing support for disaster victims. Protection of children affected by the disaster.

3. Association for Aid and Relief, a certified NPO: 3 million yen Distribution of blankets, diapers, food, underwear, and other daily necessities, mainly in rural areas that are hard to reach, as well as in evacuation centers in Turkey.

4. Non-profit organization Parsik: 1 million yen Distribution of daily necessities such as diapers to Syrian refugees who are hard to reach by government assistance. In northern Syria, delivered medical supplies for surgery and dialysis in the affected areas, and distributed blankets and stoves.

5. "Sadaqa Initiative," a campaign to support victims of the Syrian earthquake: 1,000,000 yen Distribution of food and medical supplies and support for activities of local NGOs in Aleppo, Latakia, Hama and other areas in Syria.

RfP Japan's support for the Turkey-Syria Earthquake has totaled 16,692,000 yen so far, including 1,000,000 yen for White Helmets and 1,000,000 yen for the Molham Volunteer Team, which provided emergency support immediately after the earthquake. The total amount of the donations so far is 16,692,000 yen.

We will continue our efforts to ensure that relief reaches those in need as soon as possible.
